A champion for a better future in Winnipeg South Centre
Ben Carr was born and raised in Winnipeg. He graduated from French Immersion programs at École J.B. Mitchell, École River Heights, and École Kelvin High School. He studied Canadian History and Political Science at Simon Fraser University, Carleton University, and the University of Exeter. Ben completed his Bachelor’s of Education at the University of Winnipeg, before starting his career as a teacher at both Robert H. Smith and Kelvin High School.
Ben was elected Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre in 2023. Prior to running for office, Ben served as the Vice-President of Indigenous Strategy Alliance, and held positions as Principal of the nationally award-winning Maples Met High School, as well as a Divisional Principal in the Seven Oaks School Division. Earlier in his career, Ben was the Executive Director of the United Nations Association in Canada (Manitoba), and a research associate at the Institute of Urban Studies at the University of Winnipeg.
As a result of his dedication to community through education, volunteerism, and beyond, CBC Manitoba named Ben one of the top ten “Future 40” winners in 2022.
In recognition of his ability to collaborate, build bridges across party lines, and strong leadership qualities, Ben was elected unanimously as the Chair of the House Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. He is a former member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, where he fought hard to ban the exportation of live horses for slaughter, and currently sits as a member of the Indigenous Northern Affairs community, where he has been a leading advocate for Manitoba communities.
Ben currently lives in Winnipeg South Centre with his partner Amy, along with Theodore and Lily, their two beautiful Golden Labs. He is closely involved in the lives of his nieces, nephew, and friends' children, and is known affectionately to them as “Uncle Ben”. He is a lover of all types of music, nature, and animals. He enjoys spending winter days skating on the same rinks he played on as a kid, and in the summers, enjoys the beauty of Winnipeg’s green spaces.
